Etymology

'Farm of Herewynn ,' that being an OE fem. pers. name. The v of the modern form is irregular but we may compare Kinvaston (St), Kynwaldestun in the Wolverhampton foundation charter, Rivenhall (Ess), DBRuwenhale and Waveney (Nf), 1275Wahenhe , 1465Wawneye .
