Chilton (6″) is Chilton 1245 WM xvi, 1289, Chilton juxta Elecombe 1356, Chylton 1281, 1289Ass . The forms are too late for us to decide whether this is OE  Cillan tun , 'Cilia 's farm,' or cilda tun , 'farm of the young men,' v. cild .
