Etymology

Cadley Fm is to be associated with Thomas de Cadele (1332SR , 1346Ass ). It is difficult to be sure whether this and the other Cadley names noted below (v. Index) are all of local origin or whether one or more of them are of local origin and the rest of the manorial type, taking their name from a settler from one of the other Cadleys. The personal name Cada is on independent record and is well attested in place-names (cf. Cadenham and Cadworth supra 87, 211), so that the existence of more than one Cadley in the same county is quite possible.
