Etymology

'Thancred's glade or clearing', v. lēah . The OE  pers.n. Þancrēd is recorded (Searle). Initial T - for Th - is due to AN influence (IPN 108–9), and the loss of the gen. inflection is a common northern feature. v. Addenda.
