Etymology

'Wether-sheep farmstead', v. veðr , . The early Wer (r )e - spellings are due to AN influence as in Werrington Nth 246 or Surrey Sr 1. Tempel - (v. tempel ) from the possession of land here by the Knights Templars of Ribston.
