Etymology

'Crow well', v. crāwe , wella , flat , kelda 'spring', sīc 'stream', cf. Crow Hill iii, 146supra . DB Calde - is an error and a marginal note Cra (fol. 380) makes it clear that this place is meant. Its location is not certain, but it is listed in the lands of William Percy between Spofforth and Linton, and Skaife 134 may be right in identifying it with Stockeld Park (infra ); the references in YD iv and YD v associate it with Stockeld.
