Etymology

The first OE spelling (from a late MS) is to be interpreted as Frysetune , rather than Fryþetune . 'The Frisians' farmstead', v. Frīsa , tūn , and Ferry Fryston ii, 65supra . 'Monk' (v. munuc ) because the land here was held by the monks of Selby Abbey (Selby passim , Vill 344).
