Etymology
Pinkhill Lane, Pinkale (pasture) 1318 Linds, Pincle 1699 AireSurv, Pinkhill 1813EnclA , 'finch nook', v. pinca , halh ; cf. Finchale Du 85 of similar meaning which has been identified with OE æt Pincan heale (ASC 788 E), the meeting place of a synod in Northumbria. Pinkhill may in fact be the site of the synod. The halh is a piece of land which was enclosed in a former loop of the R. Aire.
