Etymology

Whitley Beaumont, Witteley 1271 Font, Qwitlay 1415 DodsN, Qwitley 1433 ib, Whitley hall 1424 Rent, 1655 WillS, Whetley Beamont 1436 DodsN, v. Upper Whitley supra . The estate belonged to the Beaumont family (Lat  de Bello Monte ) from the twelfth century (cf. WB ix, 1 et passim , and the sources cited, YAJ viii, 502 ff); the hall was rebuilt t. Eliz by Sir Richard Beaumont.
