Etymology

'Oddkell's outlying farmstead', v. þorp . The pers.n. is OWScand  Oddkell , which is recorded only in OIcel ; it is found in Okeles oxegange 50 supra . The assimilation of Oddkell to Ok (k )el is paralleled by ME  Og (g )er from OG  Odger , ME  Oggod from OG  Odgaud (Forssner 197, 200), Dan  Oger from ODan  Oddger , and a similar change is assumed for Uckerby YN 278 (from Út -Kári ).
