Etymology

'(At) the houses in the wood', v. wudu , hūs , -um . On the shifting of the secondary stress to the dat.pl. ending -um in this name, Woodsome ii, 268 and Gildersome iii, 223supra , cf. Ritter 145 and LMS i, 51–2.
