Etymology

This parish is now united with Barnby Dun township (17supra ). It also included for a time the Long Sandall part which was originally in the township of Wheatley (36infra ), though in the parish of Kirk Sandall, and which has more recently been transferred to the Municipal Borough of Doncaster (29infra ).
