Etymology

Brixfield Fm (6″) is Brekyshulle c. 1325Magdalen , Bryxhyll 1510Compton , Brikyshill 1540LRMB , Brixhill 1558, 1606Recov , Bricks Hill c. 1830 O.S. The alteration of hill to field is clearly a quite recent corruption. The forms are too late for any interpretation of the first element to be possible.
