Etymology

Karrow Field (6″) is Kakerow , Cakerow 1395 EA iv, Karrow Field c. 1840TA . Near here lived Alexander de Kakerowe (1277Ely ). Cf. also Karrow Field infra 288, Cakerow t. The first element is the vb. cack , 'to void excrement.' The noun is not recorded before c. 1600, v. NEDs. v. cack and v. also rāw .
