Etymology

Blackdike Bank (6″). Cf. le Blakediche 1370Ct , Blakedyke 1438Sewers , Averies trees or Black dike 1570 Imb, v. dic . Blackdike Bridge (6″) is on the Tydd St Giles's boundary and the bank apparently once continued through Tydd to the Shire Drain. In Tydd we have Auereystrese , Auereystrees 1438Sewers . This is probably to be associated with the family of Nicholas, son of John Averey (1305 FF).
