Etymology
Staple Leys Fm (with Staple Leys in Wentworth infra 243) is Stapyllleyes 1431Peterhouse and takes name from Staple 1251Ely Couch , some forgotten stapol or pillar, which also gave name to Stapelweye 13thElyCh and Stapelfeld 1341Ct . leyes is probably a late form for lǣs , 'pasture.' The 'staple' was probably in Wentworth.
