Etymology

This is probably 'Wīgstan 's farm' (v. tun ), but three of the early forms, unless they are errors, suggest Winestan as an alternative possibility. The n would readily be lost. Wistaston (Ch) and Wessington (Db) contain the same pers. name Wīgstan .
