Etymology

Maudlin is the site of an old leper hospital, of which the full title was Hospitale Sancte Marie Magdalene de Loddesdoune juxta Halnaked (c. 1275LibE ). The site is mentioned already c. 1200 as Loddesduna (Box ), v. dun and Lodsworth supra 26.First called Maudelayn in 1412 (FA), Maudling in 1823 (G).
