Etymology

'Coppa's valley,' v. denu . The name Coppa is not on independent record in OE but there is good evidence for it in p.n.'s, cf. Copford (Ess), Coppanford in KCD 699, Copley Wood (So), Coppanleighe in BCS 300 (a late copy), Copston (K), Coppanstan in BCS 367, and possibly also Copnor (Ha), Coponora in BCS 198 (a late copy).
