Etymology

Nowhurst Fm may have been the home of William atte Nore (1327 SR), i.e. at the bank, v. ora , æt . This would become Nower , and Nowhurst may be a corruption of Nower 's , of a common type. Cf. Owers supra 83 for the vowel-development.
