The Trundle

Early-attested site in the Parish of Singleton

Etymology

The Trundle is now used of the whole hill called 'St Roche's Hill.' Really it is the name of the earthwork on it. The name is probably from OE  tryndel , 'circle.' Cf. Trendelgrof (1368), Trendlefeild (1655), Trundlefeld (1570), all field-names from this county.
