Etymology

Tufton Place was the home of Matilda de Tuktone (1332 SR), Simon de Toketone (1361 HMC Var vii) and Wm Toughton (1451 ib.). kt presumably became ght and so ft . Perhaps from OE  Tuccan-tun , 'Tucca's farm,' cf. Tugmore supra 369.
