Etymology

Professor Ekwall suggests that this may be an ingas -deriva- tive of an OE  perric , a South-Saxon form found side by side with pearroc and identical with Germ pferch , OHG  pferrih .Hence, 'people of the enclosure' (PN in -ing 61).
