Etymology

The evidence as a whole suggests an OE  pers. name Nata , hence 'Nata's wood.' For this pers. name v. PN Wo 188–9.OE  nēata -wudu , 'wood of the cattle,' might be possible were the evidence clearer that the vowel was really shortened, v. neat .
