Etymology

Woodsell is Wodsells Hasshe , Wodsell Asshe 1517, 1520Ct and is to be associated with the family of Walter de Wodeselle (1288Ct ), Alan de Wodsill (1450 SAC 18, 26). The forms are too late for any certainty. It may be a compound of wudu and sele or geselle as in Buxshalls supra 340, 'house by the wood.'
