Etymology

Bailliffscourt belonged to the abbot of Séez, whose interests here were looked after by a bailiff. Peter le Baillif of Atherington is mentioned in 1327 (Banco). The earliest references to the place itself are as above and Baylies Court in Speed's map (1610).So also, Baileys Fm in 1823 (G).
