Etymology

Bevern Bridge (6″) is pontem de Beuehorne t. Wm 2Lewes , Beuehorne n.d. Lewes , bridge of Bevehorne 14thAD A 15515, Bevorne Bridge 1583 Rowe, Sevan 's Bridge 1797 SAC 12. The bridge must take its name from a place called Beofanhorn in OE , i.e. Beofa 's corner of land, v. horn . The pers. name Beoba is on record in BCS 145 and 211 as the name of a Sussex man.Cf. also Bevendean infra 308.
