Etymology

Glydwish is Clydewich , Cludewih ', Glidewisse 1279Ass (p), Gledewysse 1296 SR (p), Gledewysshe 1407Add , Glodewish 1332 SR (p). Professor Ekwall suggests that the first element here is OE  gli (o )da , 'glede, kite.' The second is wisc . Cf. Gledecroft (1406Ct ) and Puttokwysh (1333Ct ), the latter containing a similar bird-name.
