Etymology

Linsford Fm (6″) is Lynsesford t. Ed 3For , Lyncesford 1446 Chertsey, Lyncheford 1493Ct , Lynseford 1548LRMB , Lynch Ford 1816 O.S. The forms for this name are late and not particularly good, but it is almost certainly the same as Lintz Ford (PN NbDu 135), a compound of OE  hlinc and ford , hence 'ford by the slope or hill.' In 1789 (L and C), 1816 (O.S.) there is a Lynch Fm close by.
