Etymology

Bristow Fm is Burstowe t. Hy 3For (p), Bristowryth '1418 Chertsey, Brystowe 1544SR , Brister 1765 R, 1823 G. This name is evidently identical in origin with Burstow infra 286. There is no earthwork or the like here now, but there may once have been some stronghold guarding the passage of the Blackwater here.-ryth ' is OE  riþ, 'streamlet.'
