Etymology

Spreakley is Sprakele , Sprachele 1225Ass , Sparkeley 1298Rental (p), Spraklye 1596 Musters, Spreaklie 1600 SrWills, Sprickley 1765 R, 1823 G, Sprakley 1823 Br. The first element is OE  spræc , 'shoot, twig,' the whole name denoting 'woodland (or clearing) marked by young shoots.' Cf. Fellow supra 115.
