Etymology

Fitznells (6″) is Fynellesgrove 1415 Ch, tent . voc. Venelles 1450 IpmR, Fenelles 1450–3 ECP, manor of Fitznell in Ewell t. Eliz ChancP, Fenells 1663Recov , and takes its name from Robert le Fitz Neel or le Fitz Nel (i.e. 'son of Nigel'), who held land in the parish in 1332 (Ipm). Cf. Fennells Wood (PN Bk 201).
