Etymology

Mint Fm is so named in 1823 (Br). It was earlier Farnecroft 1255Ass (p), Feringcroft (sic)1258, Farnycroft 1325 LBa, Farn (e )croft 1332 SR (p), 1342 FF (p), Farne Croft 1598, Farm (e )croft (s )1697, 1711, 1783 LBa. 'Bracken croft,' or possibly from the adj. fearnig rather than the noun fearn .
