Etymology

Copt Hill Fm (6″) is Coppedehulle 1378, Coppedhylle 1412, Coppedhall 1432, Coppedhill 1489, Copydhill 1553, Copthill 1581 LBa. 'A hill rising to a rounded top.' Cf. Aubrey (ii. 39).“They show you a copped Hill,” showing that the term was at one time in general use.
