Etymology

Furzen Fm (6″) is Firzen al.Firzetts 1725, Firzetts 1775, Firzet al. Firzens 1829Rental . The alternative and probably original name is an et -derivative of 'furze' (OE  fyrs), v. infra 358–9. In PN Sx 18 the continental parallel Fursitium is quoted.Hence 'place of furze bushes.'
