Etymology

Harcomb Fm (not on map) is called Wyton 's18th DickinsC. Miss Dickins says there is still a field called Wyton's Harcomb (Wyton Harcombs c. 1840TA ) on the farm. For the modern name, cf. Harckum , Harckum Gate 1597 DickinsC, Harkum 1608 DickinsC.Harcomb Wood (6″) is in Gl. Second element probably cumb. The forms are too late for definite etymology of the first element, but 'boundary valley' is likely, v. hār . The Wood is on the county boundary. hara , 'hare,' is formally possible.
