Etymology

Ganabridge Wood (6″) is Cane brigge , Canebriggmedowe , Ganebrigeclose t. Ed 3LRMB , Cane brigge , Canebriggmedowe 1539 WoodsRept, Cano brydge 1539MinAcct , Canni brig feeld , Canna brigg 1630Map . The forms are too uncertain for any interpretation to be possible. Professor Bruce Dickins suggests the personal name Cana as the first element. Professor Ekwall suggests OE  gamen-brycg , 'game-bridge,' i.e. where such are held. Cf. Gannow (PN Wo 341).
