Etymology

Lidgett Ho is Lidyate 1273Blyth , le Lydyate 1324For , le Ledegate 1437 Pat and was the home of Richard atte Lydyate (1327SR ). This is the OE  hlidgeat, 'swing gate,' frequently found in old woodland areas. Cf. infra 284.
