Etymology

Flixter Breck (6″) is Flixter Brake c. 1825 O.S. and would seem to be identical with Fliskhawe t. Hy 3, 1287, 1335For , Fliscrowe c. 1450ForBk , Flisker haw c. 1500Map , Fliskhowe 1589For . Professor Bruce Dickins makes the likely suggestion that this is from OScand  Flikshagi , i.e. the enclosure of one Flik , a common Danish name, with metathesis of ks to sk in the early forms. v. hagi and cf. Fleecethorpe infra 82.
