Etymology

Probably 'Blesi 's village,' v. by . Cf. Bleasby (L), Blesebi 1086 DB, c. 1114 LiSurv. Cf. Robert de Blesedale (1335For ) in Lowdham, three miles away. For the earliest form with OE  tun, v. Introd. xix. As Ekwall notes (DEPN s. n .) the form Blisemere (BCS 1029) probably a copyist's error due to the preceding Gypesmere .
