Etymology

This is probably from OE  Seofan-leage , 'leahof one Seofa .'For this pers. name cf. Seofus (LVH) and Seofocanwyrð (BCS 1002). The hay is a piece of folk-etymology due to the influence of such names as Morehay infra 207.
