Ring Haw is Dringhawe c. 1220, Drynghawe c. 1300For , Dryngehawe 1333 Ipm, Drinkhawe al. Ringoe t. Jas 1, Ringhaw al. Dringhawe 1642 Woods Rept. This is a compound of the Scandinavian dreng and hagi , hence 'enclosure held or occupied by a group of drengs, holding by their particular form of tenure.'Cf. Drinsey Nook (Nt), containing the same elements. For the loss of initial d , cf. the somewhat similar loss of initial th in the word riding (PN NRY 1).
