Etymology

Caister Bardolf, Castre Bardolf 1462, 1464 Pat, Castrebardolf 1467ib , Caster Berdolffis 1470 Past, Caster Bardolf 1477ib .This manor was early connected with the Gournay family (from Normandy). William Bardolph was lord in 38 Hy3, i.e. 1253–4. It was later united to other Caister manors under the Pastons (v. Blomefield XI202 ff.).
