Etymology

Caister Castle and Manor, the maner of Castre 1459 Past, the gret mansion of Castre by him [scil. Sir John Fastolf] late edified 1459ib , Caster Halle 1467(2x)ib , Castyr Hawill 1486ib . Caister Castle was built for Sir John Fastolf in 1432–5 (Pevsner 109). On the death of Sir John in 1459 Caister Castle went to the Pastons (Blomefield XI209), who resided there from 1459 to 1599 (Pevsner ib ). There are considerable remains of the tower and some of the walls.
