Syon Ho

Early-attested site in the Parish of Isleworth

Etymology

Syon Ho [zaiən] takes its name from the Monasterium S Salvatoris et S Brigittae de Syon founded by Henry V in 1414 (v. Dugdale vi, 542). Cf. abbatissa de Syon 1428 FA, Istelworth Syon 1564 FF, Eslworth Sion 1602 AD vi. Norden (1593) says “Syon in remembrance of that hill in Jerusalem,” but the authority for that statement is unknown. v. Addenda xxxiii.
