Etymology

Smallbury is Smalborow 1436Ct . Cf. Smalborowelane 1438 ib., Smalleboro Grene , Smalleborowe Closes 1547 Pat, Smallbury Green 1680 S. The forms suggest that the original second element was OE  beorg, 'barrow.' 'Hill' is hardly possible here.
