Ed 3DuLa , the kings highe way leading from Waltham Cross toward London 1610 ib., Norhtlok (sic)1355 Misc, The Locke 1657 RobinsonEn, Enfield Lock 1710 S, Enfield Wash 1675 Ogilby. The last is at the spot where the Ermine Street crosses the Cuffley Brook, v. (ge)wæsc, 'ground washed over by water, ford.' lok must be OE  loc, 'enclosure.'
