Etymology

'The farmstead, village among brushwood', from ON  hrís 'brushwood, shrubs' and , identical with Risby PN L 3, 173 and Risby Sf and YE, as well as Rejsby and Risby in Denmark. It is possible that Risby, found four times as a settlement-name in England, is in fact a name transferred from Denmark. If this were so, it was presumably as topographically appropriate for the English names as for the Danish.
