Etymology

Broken Green is Brokyn grene 1526HarlCh . Cf. Broking 1304, le Brokinge 1342, Brokyngewode , Brokyngge 1345MinAcct . This was the home of William atte Brokyng (1342 ib.). There is a small stream here and the name would seem to be a singular ing -derivative of OE  broc, denoting well-watered land.
