Etymology

Ruddery Spring (6″) is Redderethe , Rederethelane 1406Ct , Ridderethefelde 1469StJohns , and was near the home of William de Reddereth (1294SR ). This would seem to be a compound of OE  hryðer, 'cattle' and riþ, 'streamlet.' For the loss of the final consonant, cf. Shottery (PN Wa 239–40). v. spring infra 259.
